Delta House offshore platform uses ‘one-size-fits-most’ approach to speed production
The Delta House hydrocarbon production platform was built in a way that will help owner LLOG Exploration Co. recoup its investment by producing hydrocarbons faster. This has been done partly through a ‘one-size-fits-most’ design that will meet the most common reservoir characteristics expected in the area of the Gulf of Mexico to be explored. This way, design and construction on the platform could get underway, so that it would be ready when a discovery was made. Speed of completion was also helped by having a an integrated structural deck and topsides facility that was designed as a single-level platform, unlike the three-level configuration of many offshore platforms. On a multi-level platform, if a piece of equipment for a lower level is delayed, it is impossible to float over that area of the deck until that item arrives and can be installed. A single, "Texas-style" deck means that there were fewer items on a critical path.
